Balayage

Balayage is the new word for Highlights in the salon these days. Balayage basically means free hand highlight and unlike traditional foil highlights which follows a structured systematic way of where the highlights will be placed, balayage highlight is a “free hand design” by the stylist and thus it is up to the discretion the stylist on how he would like to place the highlight based on the hair flow, face shape and head shape of the customer. In short, balayage is a highlighting technique itself and it is not a color shade, thus it can be done with a color tone of your choice.

Since 2016, Balayage Highlights has been taking the lead in being one of the most sought after colouring technique. Since its launch in the market, Picasso Hair Studio has given it a twist by branching out into two different styles for its Balayage highlights namely our Dimensional Balayage Highlights and Airtouch Balayage Highlights.

Here are our 2 different styles of Balayage highlights:

(Dimensional Balayage on straight and curly hair)

Dimensional Balayage is a highlight that focus on creating a “pop up” shadow dimensional effect. Due to its dimensional nature of this highlight, it will have stronger “lines effect” and would usually require bleaching of 1 – 2 times depending on the colour chosen. This technique of Balayage, not only looks good on curly hair but also on straight hair. In Picasso Hair Studio, we will also usually leave the hair roots black or a much darker shade so that the new regrowth roots will be less obvious catering to customers who prefers a low maintenance highlight and does not want to keep coming back to colour their hair.

Airtouch Balayage is a highlight that focus on creating soft lines and blended effects. Unlike traditional balayage techniques where tweaking and backcombing the hair is done (often resulting in long term damaged to the hair) to create a blended result, Airtouch as the name suggests is done by using “Air” aka a hair dryer to create this seamless blend of colours. By using the “air” technique, it is much gentler and less damaging option compared to traditional balayage technique. Airtouch Balayage is the perfect choice for someone who does not like to see harsh lines and prefers soft blended highlights that starts from the roots.
