Digital Perm
What is a Digital Perm?
A digital perm, also referred to as a “hot perm,” is a revolutionary perming technique that harnesses the power of technology to transform your perm hair.
The primary objective of a digital perm is to instil the curls with a distinctive “memory” before finalising the look with a fixing lotion. This heat-activated approach ensures that the curls are more defined and long-lasting, making it a preferred choice for those seeking a timeless and effortlessly chic look.
The resulting curls exude an understated elegance that sets them apart from traditional cold perms. The c curl perm variation of digital perms in Singapore is especially notable for its ability to create half a curl at the hair ends, reminiscent of the letter ‘C.’ This unique effect is ideal for individuals seeking a polished and tidy appearance, coupled with a hint of sophistication.
Variations of Digital Perms in Singapore
The different perm styles in the current market like C curls, S curls, Korean Perms, Flow Perm and Volume Perm are all considered part of Digital Perms as they are created through a hot perm process. The difference in the perm styles is made through variations in the haircut and perm rod placement rather than the perm process.
Flow Perm
A modern and trendy hair transformation that adds a beautiful flow to your locks. This innovative perm style creates soft, natural-looking waves that gently cascade down your hair.
C Curl Perm
A distinctive variation of the digital perm, known for its ability to craft captivating half curls that mimic the shape of the letter ‘C.’ This style creates a minimalist and “girl next door” aesthetic, catering to women who aspire to exude a neat look, distinct from the more voluminous waves often associated with longer hair.
Korean Perm
A popular hair styling technique that’s characterised by its natural and soft curls. It’s inspired by Korean beauty trends and focuses on creating loose, romantic waves with a subtle, lived-in appearance.
Volume Perm
This technique is designed to give your hair a boost, creating extra lift and volume from the roots to the tips. It’s an ideal solution for those with fine or flat hair who desire a fuller and more dynamic hairstyle.
Another reason why Digital Perms are more highly sought after is because it is suitable for almost all hair types including frizzy hair and previously rebonded hair. Whereas these hair conditions (frizzy/ previously rebonded hair) will not be recommended for cold perm.
However one key determining factor whether one should get a digital perm or not would also be the home care maintenance. Whether one has the routine of blow-drying her hair at home or not as it is strongly recommended for customers to blow-dry their hair daily after a digital perm.
The more the hair is blown dry, the more defined the curls will be. If the hair is left to air dry, the curls might come out looser than expected. This is because during the perm service, the curls are “formed” through a hot process, and thus at home, it will require the customer to use heat (hair dryer) to recreate the memory of the curls.
On the contrary for Cold perm, the curls will be more define when it is wet, and the more it is blown dry with heat the looser the curls will be.

FAQs About Digital Perms in Singapore
What is a digital perm, and how does it differ from other perm techniques?
A digital perm is a hair styling method that employs advanced technology to create long-lasting and defined curls or waves in your permed hair. Unlike traditional perms, digital perms use a specialised machine to add controlled heat to the perm rods during the process, which allows for the formation of curls with a distinct “memory.” This modern technique is particularly favoured for its ability to produce softer and more natural-looking curls, setting it apart from traditional cold perms. Some variations, such as the c curl perm, create unique, cascading curls reminiscent of the letter ‘C.’
How long do the results of a digital perm last, and can it be customised for different hair types?
The longevity of a digital perm largely depends on individual hair type and maintenance. Generally, these perms can last anywhere from a few months, with the curls gradually relaxing over time. The duration may vary based on your permed hair type and the specific style you choose, whether it’s a natural wave or a more defined curl. Digital perms are versatile and can be customised to suit different hair types, allowing stylists to adjust the heat, rod size, and technique to achieve the desired outcome.
Is it safe to get a digital perm, and how should I care for my hair after the treatment?
Digital perms are generally considered safe when performed by experienced professionals. At Picasso Hair Studio, we have innovatively crafted a unique perm cushion made of special wood pulp paper, which we use to wrap around the hair during the digital perm process. This approach allows for precise heat regulation, minimising the risk of hair damage during the perm. After getting a digital perm, it’s essential to follow a specific hair care routine to maintain the results. This includes using sulphate-free shampoos and conditioners, avoiding excessive heat styling, and applying recommended hair products to keep the curls in optimal condition. Regular trims and touch-ups can also help maintain the shape of the curls and prolong the lifespan of your digital perm.
